Revelation Records Latest Releases

Revelation Records is an independent record label focusing originally and primarily on hardcore punk. Formerly of New Haven, Connecticut, it is now based in Huntington Beach, California. It was founded in 1987 by owner Jordan Cooper, along with Ray Cappo of Youth of Today, with the sole intent of producing the Warzone Lower East Side Crew 7". Within the year, they put out two more releases and a limited 4th pressing of Youth of Today's Can't Close My Eyes 7", which had been originally released on Positive Force Records, just for the two of them to trade for vintage G.I.Joes and other action figures. In the first three years, the label put out 23 releases and pressed approximately 50,000 records, and it has continued to release an average of 7-8 albums a year.

The Rival Mob: Mob Justice CD/LP/CASSETTE

Drawn up by some of the most unsavory souls in the Boston, MA underground hardcore scene and reinforced by members who have done time in infamous area bands like Mind Eraser, Righteous Jams, Mental, XFilesX and many others, The Rival Mob has become darlings of the current hardcore scene, inspiring shameless violence and playing high on the bill at the most important hardcore festivals in America: This Is Hardcore in Philadelphia, PA, Sound And Fury in California and Chaos In Tejas in Austin, TX. In between serving time with their current other projects World War 4, Give, No Tolerance and Boston Strangler, the band will be playing on both coasts highlighted once again by the big summer festivals as well as their first-ever trip across the Atlantic to Europe. The band's Revelation Records debut picks up right where their previous EP, "Hardcore For Hardcore," left off, with vocalist Brendan Radigan spewing venom at the ills that plague both the outside world and the scene itself, all delivered over fast, stagedive-inspiring hardcore that brings to mind the best of mid-late '80s New York hardcore bands like Youth Of Today, Warzone and Breakdown. Vinyl version includes digital download.

This new expanded version of Texas Is The Reason's groundbreaking album includes the last two songs the band wrote before splitting up, but had never released. These two songs, which fit right into the band's canon, were finally put to tape this year with "Do You Know Who You Are?" producer J. Robbins - making this, for the first time, a complete career retrospective. "Do You Know Who You Are?: The Complete Collection" will be released by Revelation Records in February. Vinyl version includes digital download.

By A Thread has written and recorded some of the most dynamic and influential post-hardcore/rock ever to come out of the Pacific Northwest. Drawing on their experience in the hardcore band Strain, the four members of By A Thread create multi-layered, emotional music fueled by the power and desperation of the human experience. The album's tracks are as expressive, evocative and memorable as the band's debut, but reveal a maturity in songwriting and approach that has developed in the decade since that first release. Vinyl version includes digital download.<br />

Tony Rettman: Why Be Something That You're Not: Detroit Hardcore 1979-1985

In the early seventies, Detroit was the musical hub of America. Everything from the chart topping sounds of Motown records to the vicious proto-punk of The Stooges was being brewed out there and it seemed like there was no end in sight. But by the early eighties, the city was both a physical and cultural wasteland due to major label buyouts of the artists as well as the crippling drug habits of some of the others. Detroit's most known musical export at the time was the vapid sounds of New Wave heartthrobs The Romantics; this wasn't good. It took a gaggle of suburban skateboarders, a grade school teacher and a census bureau clerk to wake this city up from its slumber and start one of the first hardcore punk scenes in America.<br />
<br />
"Why Be Something That You're Not" chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from its origins in the late seventies to its demise in the mid-eighties. Through a combination of oral history and extensive imagery, the book proves that even though the Southern California beach towns might have created the look and style of hardcore punk, it was the Detroit scene - along with a handful of other cities across the country - that cultivated the music's grassroots aesthetic before most cultural hot spots around the globe even knew what the music was about.<br />
<br />
The book includes interviews with members of The Fix, Violent Apathy, Negative Approach, Necros, Pagans, Bored Youth, and L-Seven along with other people who had a hand in the early hardcore scene like Ian MacKaye, Tesco Vee and Dave Stimson.

Brian Peterson: Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution In Ethics, Politics, Spirit, And Sound

Although some define hardcore as a specific sound, most believe it's more than that; a set of varying ideas, ethics, principles, attitudes and, yes, music, that converge to form a community. "Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution In Ethics, Politics, Spirit, And Sound" by Brian Peterson provides some answers, but also brings up a whole new set of questions for those who've been drawn to the scene's political, social, ethical and spiritual ideas amidst the screamed vocals and abrasive chords. "Burning Fight" features commentary from approximately 150 participants from the nineties hardcore scene as well as oral history articles about straight edge, politics, vegetarianism and interviews with a variety of influential bands such as: Avail, Burn, Earth Crisis, Inside Out, Integrity, Los Crudos, Spitboy, Strife, Texas Is The Reason, Unbroken and more.

Norman Brannon: The Anti-Matter Anthology

While much ink has been spilled over 1980s punk and hardcore mythology, very little has been done to document the era that followed. Indeed, it's a glaring omission. In the 1990s, punk rock entered its adolescent stage and began reevaluating its own music, politics, and traditions. And before long, the result of this collective soul-searching became clear: If hardcore wanted to remain relevant in the new decade, it was going to have to rebel against itself. "The Anti-Matter Anthology" is perhaps the first published book dedicated to this transition.

Mouthpiece: Can't Kill What's Inside: The Complete Discography

While many of the early eighties pioneers of hardcore had moved along, the scene went through something of a renaissance with a new crop of energetic kids who had seized the power of the music and molded it into something that was relevant to the style of their times. Fast forward to 2009 and the inspiration for Mouthpiece's formation comes full circle with the release of "Can't Kill What's Inside: The Complete Discography" on Revelation Records. The CD contains three additional previously unreleased live tracks not available on the vinyl version and an enhanced portion which includes a 13 song live set recorded live at CBGBs as well as a video for the song "Cinder."<br />

Down To Nothing: Unbreakable

Down To Nothing started from humble beginnings in 2000. Around that time, local Richmond VA favorites Count Me Out and Time Flies found themselves at the tail end of their careers, making Down To Nothing the perfect fit to fill the void of the two fallen heroes. Like most young bands, DTN's expectations didn't go much further than a little touring and releasing a record. After putting out their first full-length, "Save It For The Birds" in 2003, DTN knew they were bound for more. In the next two years, DTN released two splits: The first came out in 2004 and was with Florida's Kids Like Us (Eulogy Records); the second split was the result of a strong friendship they forged with the UK's On Thin Ice on their first European tour in 2005. The two splits along with three unreleased songs were compiled and released as "Splitting Headache" in 2005. This compilation showed immense growth and acted as a bridge to their most recent work, "The Most." After being out of print for over a year, DTN's "Splitting Headache" and "Save It For The Birds" are finally available again on one special Revelation release, "Unbreakable."

Living Hell: The Lost And The Damned

Boasting a rich musical history, New England adds to its ever-flourishing hardcore community with Living Hell's debut full length, "The Lost And The Damned." This Connecticut/Boston hybrid's take on hardcore is one that reflects the hardened, metal tinged sound of bands like Judge, Ringworm, and Cro-Mags. Singer Craig Mack's intent was to make "The Lost And The Damned" an album that blends the heavier, metal infused side of hardcore with a faster New York influence.

Long Island's Capital take a fresh approach to melodic hardcore/punk. Their sound is a mix of many familiar elements blending the melodic style of Dag Nasty, the punk aspect of Bad Religion, and post hardcore tendencies of Quicksand. Stemming from quintessential Long Island hardcore bands Silent Majority and The Reformation, Capital is defined as much by their experiences as their musical influences.

Beth Lahickey: All Ages: Reflections On Straight Edge

"All Ages - Reflections on Straight Edge takes an in-depth look at the second wave of American Hardcore - the music that borrowed from the likes of Minor Threat, Black Flag, and SSD - bands like Youth of Today, Slapshot, Bold, Underdog, Side by Side, Gorilla Biscuits, Judge, Inside Out, Chain of Strength, No for an Answer, Supertouch and so on. Most of these bands were awesome and they were all different and they have yet to be documented accurately outside of their own recordings until now.<br />
<br />
The personalities and opinions expressed in this book are as varied as the music these people have since created. We've gone from Youth of Today, No for an Answer, Brotherhood and Bold to Shelter, Engine Kid, Quicksand, Farside and Into Another. Straight edge is not so much the topic, but a starting point. Where all these band members and "scenesters" have gone since then is what's really fascinating. So many people who seemingly stood for the same things have since explored virtually every direction in life you could dream up.<br />
<br />
This is our Banned in DC and then some because Beth didn't limit the scope of this book to jus tthe big 'names,' she interviewed those on the outside looking in - everyone from Ian MacKaye to Ray Cappo to Jordan Cooper to the girl who sold soda at the Anthrax.<br />
<br />
If you care one iota about not just straight edge, but American Hardcore from the last ten years, then this is a must. And if you can deal with some honesty and some fallen angels and even some humor, then buy it. And don't just look at it, read it and then put it in that spot you have reserved for things that become part of your permanent collection."<br />

Dag Nasty: A Minority Of One

Washington DC legends Dag Nasty are back and as great as ever with their first release in a decade. Minority of One features the much famed line-up of guitarist Brian Baker, vocalist Dave Smalley, bassist Roger Marbury and drummer Colin Sears. The band got back to their roots and recorded the album at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, VA with Don Zientara. Brian and friend Steve Hansgen handled the production duties.Minority of One opens with the blistering "Ghosts", an ode to times past with a melody that gets stuck in your brain and just doesn't seem to want to leave. Smalley's vocals aptly show the power and skill he's known for, bringing back memories for the listener just as he's contemplating his own. The title track "Minority of One" hearkens back to the roots of the punk and DIY movements, daring listeners to stand out among the crowd and follow their own paths. The technical guitar riffing of "Bottle This" should make fans of the bands' incredible precision happy, while the introspective and slow tempo of "Twisted Again" recalls heavy melodies of Bad Religion or Sham 69.After a ten year dormancy, Dag Nasty prove that the chemistry and the soul of their music is still there and precisely the reason why they still play it. Dag Nasty's rich history and pedigree speaks for itself and Minority of One will only carry this tradition further. The songs are powerful, the recording is huge, and the lyrics and vocal delivery are as heartfelt as ever.Members:Dave Smalley - VocalsBrian Baker - GuitarRober Marbury - BassColin Sears - Drums

Bold: The Search: 1985-1989

Now available on vinyl.<br />
<br />
"The Search: 1985-1989" fittingly illustrates the journey of Bold from the raw energy and passion of the Crippled Youth "Join The Fight" EP, to the milestone straight edge hardcore album "Speak Out", and finally to their vastly progressed swan song, "Looking Back". This complete discography allows for some insight into the development of Bold as a band and as people - the lyrics and music move together, a synchronicity that marks the growth of the band. Drawing influences from the bands that came before them like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, and Youth Of Today, Bold burst out on the scene with something to prove, and more importantly, something to say.

Gameface: Always On

Very few bands have been able to combine the best elements of punk, hardcore, emo and pop to make something simpler, something all their own. Orange County's Gameface has been perfecting just such a style since 1990 and have never looked back. There's good reason why Gameface have been credited with influencing so many of today's younger, successful bands (ie: Saves The Day, A New Found Glory, etc). Gameface's history can be traced through their four 7" singles, four full length releases, and split EP along with over six US tours and two of Europe. 1999 saw the return of Gameface with the release of "Every Last Time" after a three year break between full-lengths, the album was embraced by fans old and new right out of the box and the single "My Star" was played on radio and video shows everywhere. Their latest opus, "Always On", shows a maturation that can only come with experience. "Always On" is a ten track collection of the emotional, melodic rock that Gameface has become known for and somehow improve upon.

Himsa was forged in October of 1998 to provide outlets of each members' expression, anger, political ideas and emotional rage. Initiated by members of Seattle band Trial, the genesis of Himsa began at a basement practice. With the addition of the multi-talented Aaron Edge (Harkonen, Genuine, Christ, Anonymous) on guitar and Christian (Anonymous, Jessica) on vocals, the makings for a complete aural and mental assault were complete. "Himsa's members come from hardcore backgrounds, but I'm not looking to label us as a hardcore band."

Straight out of the streets of Boston comes The Explosion! Formed in the Fall of 1998 by Matt Hock and Dave Walsh, they quickly recruited Dan Colby and In My Eyes bassist Damian Genaurdi from their group of friends. Guitarist Sam Cave (of The Trouble) joined a few months later to complete the line-up. These five guys play straightforward '77 style punk rock that combines elements of street punk and Oi! with the attack and tenacity of hardcore. Highly recommended for fans of Stiff Little Fingers, the Buzzcocks, Misfits, The Who, etc. These five tracks were recorded at Salad Days Studios with Brian McTernan (Cave-In, Snapcase, Drowningman) and are loaded with contagious choruses and fist pounding anthems. Tracks like "E-X-P-L-O-S-I-O-N" are sure to be live crowd pleasers for years to come.

The Nerve Agents: Days Of The White Owl

The spirit of old D.C. hardcore and the angst of 1980's So Cal punk lives on in the Bay and has taken form in The Nerve Agents. Since the band's self-titled debut EP in late 1999, The Nerve Agents have definitely come into their own. "Days Of The White Owl" stands as the release that showcases what The Nerve Agents are all about. The bands chemistry, musically has gelled, as they have added ex-Fury 66 guitarist Zac Hunter. This release fence walks between hardcore (Youth Of Today, Cro-Mags), and punk rock (T.S.O.L., Black Flag). The album has fourteen tracks of chaotic, pounding, hardcore punk, bookended by an eerie intro and outro of piano. "Days Of The White Owl" contains the rage and fury of hardcore, the urgency of punk, and the unique character and substance that is only The Nerve Agents'. You will be persuaded by this record, to dive from your bed, and circle pit the living room to, all hell! Features backup vocals by Davey Havok of AFI.

Two originals and one '80s cover song each on this unique split. Errortype:11's melodic yet driving, post-hardcore riffing and Gameface's punk tinged, emo-pop compliment one another perfectly and this recording shows just what each band does best: rock. The idea for the EP was inspired by a recording of a telephone conversation featuring gripping dialog from a man that we'll refer to as "Drunk Tony". That recording is of course featured prominently on this EP, the CD version of which is a beautifully laid-out digipack while the vinyl is the collectible 10" format.

This CD offers not only a musical retrospective of their achievements but a written timeline of their career; every recording, each tour, photos and anecdotes.
Elliott: Song In The Air

After touring Europe and the US in 2000 and 2001, a slightly dirty but enriched Elliott came home, rebooted, and in July of 2001 - began recording and investigating the new songs they had been making together. Song in the Air, Elliott's third full length, is the first record they have made with the addition of Benny Clark on guitar and Jason Skaggs on bass. The idea was to make a quick and easy EP but the ideas kept coming and songs kept growing. At times the prospect of insanity didn't seem too far off... But, finally, in November of 2002 the project was finished. Song In The Air had been created.Tracks from Song in the Air are some of Elliott's best yet. These songs are infused with an immediate - urgent, feeling.... and that gives us, the listeners, a view of something that hasn't been cleaned up and fabricated.In the process of recording it (which, in itself, is a fairly big story about running their own home studio and deciding to handle all of the recording duties of the record themselves) they enlisted some great musicians and others from the Louisville area to help out, including a string quartet assembled by Christian Frederickson of The Rachel's.Chris Higdon - Vocals, guitarKevin Ratterman - Drums, Keys, string arrangementsJason Skaggs - BassBenny Clark - GuitarAdditional Players:Whitney Allen - CelloChristian Frederickson - ViolaPaola Monrique - ViolinMarie Racine - ViolinAaron Todovich - Keyboards (Track 9)

Garrison: Silhouette

The Silhouette EP consists of five new songs recorded by Ethan Dussault at New Alliance Studios in Boston. Always trying to push their own envelope, Garrison only push further with this release. It's little more chaotic, a little more pissed off, and a little faster than their prior efforts. Track one &quot;Come on Die Young (No Seriously)&quot; meshes Black Flag and The Beach Boys in one mess of noise and holler, while &quot;Everything You Want&quot; recalls adrenaline fueled Samiam with a chromatic build. Add to this some various sounds of a tape machine breaking and there you have it. Bigger, stronger, louder, louder than ever before.Joseph Grillo - Vocals, GuitarEthan Dussault - Bass, Vocals, Bariton Guitar, NoiseEd McNamara - Guitar, Vocals, Organ, SynthJohn LeDoux - Drums(Guy D'annolfo plays drums on tracks 2 and 4 of this ep.)

Judge: What It Meant: The Complete Discography

While playing in Youth Of Today, Mike and Porcell started Judge as a project band. Their first single was released on Porcell's label Schism in 1988. By the time the next year was over they had made Judge a serious touring band, recorded their debut full-length and become legends within the hardcore scene. The first recording of their full length was scrapped because of the poor quality of the recording. This was released in a very limited pressing under the title Chung King Can Suck It and has been a prize of hardcore record collecting ever since. They re-recorded their album at the now legendary studio Normandy Sound and released it under its original title Bringin It Down. After a couple of years of touring they put out one final ep with three songs on it. What It Meant collects all of these recordings in their entirety along with one track from their demo (recorded with Luke from Gorilla Biscuits on Drums). Heavy, well put together music with lyrics that show thought and self examination, Judge evolved from their first single to the last song they released, leaving a legacy that helped shape hardcore. The vinyl format will include the entire demo as exclusive bonus tracks.Mike Judge - Vocals, DrumsPorcell - Guitar, BassSammy Siegler - DrumsMatt Pincus - BassJimmy Yu - BassLuke Abbey - Drums<br />

Shai Hulud: That Within Blood Ill-Tempered

Shai Hulud's highly anticipated That Within Blood Ill-Tempered is a testament of heart, passion, and sincerity. The new album clearly illustrates the effectiveness metal influenced hardcore can offer. Musically, Shai Hulud has maintained the sound they initially invented - an angered and melodic, multi-layered blend of beauty and aggression - and continued to expand its boundaries within That Within Blood Ill-Tempered. Shai Hulud is uncompromising, musically, lyrically, and idealistically - not having succumbed to current trends.Throughout their career, Shai Hulud's lyrics have been revered, and duly noted as being highly influential to fans and their musical contemporaries. That Within Blood Ill-Tempered is a veritable book of poetry as well as an epic album musically. In every aspect, That Within Blood Ill-Tempered boasts a maturity and intelligence seldom found, even in the scene of underground music.Shai Hulud is reminding the music buying public that aggressive rock is a potent and viable art form, and not just a means to showcase hollow anger, expensive clothes, and bad tattoos. There is a reason for this music, as well there should be. It is no surprise That Within Blood Ill-Tempered is this year's most anticipated hardcore / metal album. The public is wiser than they are given credit for. They demand substance, and substance they shall receive. That Within Blood Ill-Tempered is passion's promise, and true love's reward. For all the true and passionate lovers of aggressive music.Matthew Lee Fletcher - Bass, GuitarMatthew Ian Fox - GuitarAnthony Nicholas Tintari - DrumsSteven Lee Kleisath - GuitarGeert Van Der Velde - Vocals

Shai Hulud: A Complete Retrospective

Shai Hulud has become one of the more influential bands in hardcore. This is partly due to them surviving longer and through more line-up changes than most bands and still managing to put out great music in each incarnation. A Comprehensive Retrospective is a collection of the early recordings made by the band (hence the subtitle &quot;Or: How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Release Bad and Useless Recordings&quot;). It includes their first demo with original singer Damien Moyal (As Friends Rust, Culture, Morning Again), scratch guitar tracks, warehouse recordings, a live session at NYU, Chad Gilbert's first demo with the band (vocalist for Shai Hulud's release Hearts Once Nourished with Hope and Compassion. Compiled by original member Matt Fox.
By A Thread: The Last Of The Daydreams

Vancouver's By A Thread have tightly knit a new sound, drawing their influences from Seattle's Sunny Day Real Estate, hometown favorites Sparkmarker, and their own hardcore roots. Formed in 1996 by former members of Strain, By A Thread weave complex melodies with poetic lyrics that speak to the muse in each of us. Each song reveals the depth of emotion in singer/ lyricist John Franco's thoughts and actions, "My lyrics come from life experiences. I try to remain true to the feelings of the moment rather than distort them to appease other people."

The Trouble We're In, the debut full length CD from Milwaukee's Call Me Lightning, blends spastic guitars with driving no wave rhythms. Call Me Lightning's sound brings together the more frantic moments of The Talking Heads' early days with the freak-out riffs and wild vocal style of The Jesus Lizard. Throw in some lyric styling reminicent of The Minutemen and you have a powerful combination.

We are proud to bring back the definitive release of this classic straight edge band from Southern California. This amazing release also includes the 7" release "True Till Death" from Revelation and the self released 7" "What Holds Us Apart" plus an unreleased track. Chain of Strength brings you hardcore straight edge in the purest form. Most of you already know, others are still learning.

The companion EP to "We May Be Through With The Past" (Status) and recorded in Boston at God City Studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge) "But The Past..." provides the listener with Curl Up And Die's patented sound of thick, gut wrenching metal, 'calculus-core' thrash, angular post-rock and of course clever (and lengthy) song titles. In addition to vocal work that's closer to 'singing' than on previous releases, the twelve minute epic which closes the EP ("God is in his Heaven, All is Right With the World") is testament to the group's forward thinking mindset and constant musical prgression.

Las Vegas' CURL UP AND DIE are back with their second full length on Revelation Records. The One Above All, The End Of All That Is fully realizes the direction laid out on last year's bookend CDEPs We May Be Through With The Past... (Status Records) and ...But The Past Aint Through With Us (REV 117). Curl Up And Die teamed up with producer Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, Mars Volta, Kylesa) in Los Angeles and emerged with a record that is full of speed-freak thrash, epic heaviness, and monstrously loud riffs. With Mike Minnick's trademark vocals becoming more and more part of the foreground and the deft interplay between the rhythm section of Ryan Hartery (bass) and Jesse Fitts (drums) providing the base for Matt Fuchs' massive guitar work, Curl Up And Die pushes us another step toward the future of heavy music.

Damnation A.D.: Kingdom Of Lost Souls

Kingdom Of Lost Souls comes roaring at you out of the gates like a Panzer tank doing 80. Thick, dense, dark, and incredibly powerful, these ten tracks were cut at the legendary Inner Ear Studios with Don Zientara (Fugazi, Bad Brains) at the helm. If Damnation A.D.Us music is like an armored assault vehicle, then McTernan's voice is a flame thrower. Brutally honest and compelling lyrics with a vocal style that can only be described as apocalyptic. The overwhelming production, the matured, dynamic songwriting, and the nightmarish lyrics and vocals make this record a truly exhausting listening experience.

Drowningman: How They Light Cigarettes in Prison

Having already established themselves by virtue of their handful of releases on Hydrahead records, Vermont's least kept secret, Drowningman, continue to impress with their Rev debut EP, How They Light Cigarettes in Prison. Four songs of careening, spastic metal/hardcore are interrupted by haunting sections of emoish melody. Escaping earlier stock comparisons to Converge, Cave-In, and Deadguy, Drowningman have moved into their own musical territory, finding new ways to tread the line between noise and melody, intricacy and subtlety. Infused with Drowningman's already patented poetic sarcasm- How They Light Cigarettes in Prison besides offering a a variety of death threats, tells tales of heart break, armed robbery, and electrical failures in correctional institutions. Produced by Brian McTernan with design executed by Jacob Bannon, How They Light Cigarettes in Prison is required listening for anyone that has ever spent a night crying while sharpening their knives.

Elliott: False Cathedrals

Following the release of their well received debut album, U.S. Songs, and multiple subsequent tours, elliott have released their sophomore LP, False Cathedrals. Recorded in January 2000 at Grandmaster Recorders and Rondor Studios in Los Angeles with producer Tobias Miller (who has worked on albums by The Wallflowers, Fiona Apple, Korn), the twelve track opus contains melodic, ambient pop songs with Elliott's aggressive rock sound still present. The album moves from softer toned, rock-pop ballads like "Shallow Like Your Breath" and "Blessed By Your Own Ghost", to radiant songs like "Drive On To Me" to frantic, power-driven tracks like "Dying Midwestern". The album explores a wide range of dynamics, incorporating electronic drum beats and other programmed sounds and choral vocals along side traditional rock instruments. False Cathedrals transcends genres and already has the indie world buzzing. Album of the year? See for yourself.

After releasing the discography cd entitled "Six Years In The Desert" on Revelation in 2001, Fall Silent didn't waste anytime entering the studio to record their brand new release "Drunken Violence". Armed with their best songs yet and recorded by Eric Stenman (Deftones, Will Haven, Far, 7 Seconds), Fall Silent unleashes their best work yet. Early reviews of the record have compared the band to Malevolent Creation, Coalesce, Rorschach, and Crowbar with a strong hardcore foundation. Expect much more from this band in the future, they will not rest until everyone is aware.

Fall Silent: Six Years In The Desert

Hailing from Reno, Nevada, Fall Silent could possibly be the angriest band around, musically and lyrically. The band's roots lie in very familar territory to those in the hardcore scene - a group of friends in the scene getting together to play the music that they love. Fall Silent has progressed over the years, as any good band does. Their No Strength To Suffer cd originally released in 1996 brought the band to new levels. Gone was the standard hardcore formula. Added were elements of more complex metal bands such as Crowbar and Meshugga. The band was now using odd timing, better dynamics, more technical guitar parts, and the vocals and lyrics manage to convey all the emotion and rage people have come to expect.

Some things are worth the wait. Despite the fact that their last record came out in 1995, doesn't mean the band hasn't been busy. The Monroe Doctrine is the culmination of ten years of progression for the band and reflects their diverse mixture of punk, post-punk, indie and pop melodies (not to mention a throw back or two to some good old grind core). "It's absolutely the best record we've ever done," says the band and they're not joking.

Garrison: A Mile In Cold Water

Without the radical departure in style so typical of big musical strides, Garrison takes their songwriting talent to new heights with their debut full length, A Mile In Cold Water. This long awaited LP incorporates driving rock with soaring melodies, seamless transitions and insightful lyrics. Produced by Kurt Ballou (Cave-In, Converge, Isis, Piebald), the record is somehow distorted while clear harmonies run throughout. Fans of everything from Mineral to Fugazi will want to give this a listen. But Garrison's sound isn't easy to classify - Land Of Treason 'zine perhaps said it best: "Garrison is too awkward and off-kilter for the indie-pop tag and too musically intricate and textured for any of the hardcore pigeonholes."

Garrison: The Bend Before The Break

The time has come to add a new subsection to the alternative music scene. "Heavy melodic" is the best way to describe Garrison, Boston, MA's post-punks sensations. Although their music could be described as emotional, it would be unfair to describe these guys as just an "emo" band. Skillfully combining equal parts post-hardcore, sentimental pop, rock and lots of melody, Garrison are a band who write timeless songs that anyone can appreciate.

Gorilla Biscuits: Start Today

Over the years, few records have earned the distinction of "classic." Within the punk and hardcore realm, even fewer have made an impact on the way an entire genre sounds. At the top of that small list, however, is Gorilla Biscuits' "Start Today." Hailing from NYC, Gorilla Biscuits carved a niche within the NY Hardcore scene. Blending the aggression and energy of bands like Agnostic Front with a sense of melody likened to the Descendents and Dag Nasty, Gorilla Biscuits still stands as a unique reference point for every hardcore band that has come after them. The compact disc version of "Start Today" has now been remastered, leaving the components of the original recording intact but with a bolstered sound, as well as new packaging in a limited edition digipak and extended liner notes and photos. This is an essential part of any record collection.

Such bands as No For An Answer, Uniform Choice, Gorilla Biscuits, Sick Of It All, Quicksand, Inside Out, Youth of Today, etc, flavored with the sounds of 90's So Cal punk rock, paved the way for Ignite. "Past Our Means" showcases Ignite's talent for playing fast, furious, and great sing along songs.

In My Eyes: Nothing To Hide

In My Eyes have always been a special band, sort of a "most likely to succeed" for the hardcore scene. There's always been something that sets them apart from other hardcore bands, and their new LP "Nothing to Hide" shows exactly what this something is. It is the ability to communicate their emotions and convictions through music. Nothing to Hide has all the energy and aggression that their demo and "The Difference Between" had, but it expands their sound into someting truly unique. You can still hear the echoes of bands like Minor Threat and Youth Of Today, but the new album brings in even more of a sense of melody and structure than their previous record. This new fuller sound captures the energy, urgency and sincerity that makes them special. Nothing to Hide is the fulfillment of the potential that In My Eyes had when they burst onto the scene.

This is the final chapter for Seattle's insane, discordant, hardcore band Kiss It Goodbye, who split up in September of 1998. Shortly before the breakup, they recorded a 7" for Sub Pop Records with new guitarist Demian Johnston. The record was never released and so subsequently the band decided to release it on Revelation. Those long sought after songs have been coupled with another unreleased track the band recorded later and their "Target Practice" 7" (originally released on Revelation in October of 1997) for the CD version of "Choke". This five song cd (two song 7") will offer some solace to fans still mourning the loss of KIG and nightmares to others who never witnessed the horror. Kiss 'em goodbye...

On The Might Of Princes: Sirens

Long Island, NY seems to be growing into music's newest focus and continuing to gain worldwide recognition for their unique and dedicated scene. This is On The Might Of Princes' third full-length release entitled Sirens, truly a masterpiece collection of epics, atmospheric instrumentals and of course, straight up rock. Sirens was recorded at famed New Alliance Studio in Boston, MA (Cave In, ISIS). Since their inception in 1998, On The Might Of Princes has been creating their own dynamic sound, fusing melody and technical madness, all intertwined through dramatic guitar progressions, fast leads, a tight rhythm section and their notably introspective lyrics. On The Might Of Princes have already made a name for themselves through consistent touring, some festival shows (Hellfest, Magicfest, etc.) and the re-release of their previously out of print full-length Where You Are and Where You Want to Be (Traffic Violation Records). They've also done a series of benefit shows and recordings.

Never did guitarist Matt Fox think Shai Hulud would go any further than a demo tape or 7". How wrong he was. Shai Hulud's history includes numerous national and foreign tours with all of the biggest acts in hardcore, a strong force that made it through multiple lineup changes, and lyrics that have helped plenty of fans battle the hardships of life. But you can't forget where it all began: "A Profound Hatred Of Man" demonstrated a technical hardcore style that influenced the entire metalcore scene and broke through lyrical theme barriers.

Seeing Things is the newest release, again brought to us by the production team of Stevenson/Egerton and again on Revelation Records. Whereas Save It was a 200 beat-per-minute articulation of pent-up anger and frustration, Seeing Things is not quite so fast and furious. The band maintains an overriding power and genuine emotion, but there's also a more melodic edge, reminiscent of writers like Joe Jackson or Squeeze.

Since By Man: A LoveHate Relationship

Losing a guitarist and bassist would kill most bands, but in the case of Since By Man it has only made them stronger. Their new EP, LoveHate Relationship finds them growing leaps and bounds from their dynamic debut We Sing The Body Electric. The new additions (Brad Clifford on guitar and Eric Alonzo on bass) have stepped right in and added depth while maintaining the original line-up's tight, almost methodical sound. It's rare that a band this young possesses such defined chops, but Since By Man is the rarest of animals.

Since By Man: We Sing The Body Electric

Since By Man have the intensity of Converge, danceability of the Swing Kids, melodic sensibility of Milemarker and a vision all of their own. Formed in Milwaukee, 1999, Sam Macon (vocals), Justin Kay (guitar), Kevin Herwig (guitar), Jon Kraft (drums) and Bryan Jerabek (bass) have created a solid foundation from four full US tours and three releases on smaller indie labels, all now out of print. Together this five-piece form a cohesive, powerful unit that aims to give back to the musical community some of the sincerity and inspiration that it gave them. "We Sing The Body Electric" has a maturity unusual in a debut full-length though the precision and intensity shows their youth.

Known to raise the bar for his peers with each return effort, journeyman frontman Dan O'Mahony (ex-No For An Answer, 411, etc., etc.) continues that tradition on this release. Supported by easily a driven and road tested outfit , O'Mahony and company further distance themselves from the pack with "The Scum Also Rises". Picking up where the LP left off, this ep goes far beyond with the introduction of an even more confrontational brand of statement and a more layered five piece sound. Don't be left back!

We want to be a part of history" says guitarist, Norm Arenas. Norm is joined by Garrett Klahn, Scott Winegard and Chris Daly. This release brings diversity from a hardcore backround.
Twilight Transmission: The Dance Of Destruction

Veterans of the Orange County, California punk and hardcore scene, The Twilight Transmission bring the energy and vision from those roots to this rock-infused album. Their bass-heavy groove has echoes of the members' former bands Outspoken, Eleven Thirty-Four and Mean Season, so the past is still audible within a completely new sound. While it is hard to make comparisons, a case study might earn them a spot alongside either Quicksand or Helmet, with melody that is also far from typical. Singer Jae Hansel delivers screams of devastation, yet the lyrics speak to hopefulness in dark days and of better days to come. The Twilight Transmission's debut The Dance Of Destruction, demonstrates intense emotion, showing that even now rock and roll can be a cure to the stresses and pains of the everyday world. Playing fresh, innovative music is rare enough - this kind of depth and substance makes it an outright endangered species.

Where Fear And Weapons Meet: The Weapon

At home in Florida with Jeremy Staska (Morning Again, Shai Hulud, etc) manning the controls, The Weapon was recorded fast and raw, true to the nature of the band. And the fifteen tracks on the album showcase exactly what has made this four-piece so popular: high energy and great songs that are hardcore without severing its roots in punk rock. It's impossible to categorize Where Fear And Weapons Meet. They're not a "metal hardcore" band, a "youth crew" hardcore band, or a "pop-punk" hardcore band. They do what they do and they do it better than most. With this band, what you see is what you get. And what you'll see is simple... hardcore that is positive, but can rip your face off. If you think that sounds funny, give The Weapon a spin and you'll see what we're talking about.

Gracer: Voices Travel

Gracer fuses a forward-moving rock edge with the melancholy overtones of mid-90s emo - somewhere between Sunny Day Real Estate and Elliott. With former members of Long Island's On the Might of Princes (Revelation Records) and Lux Courageous (Triple Crown Records), Gracer's ambition is driven by elements of both of these projects. Spacey guitars, a driving but muted bass line, and hard-edged, precise drumming bring it all together. Produced by Elliott composer/drummer Kevin Ratterman.

Sinking Ships: Disconnecting

Seattle's Sinking Ships full-length Revelation debut, "Disconnecting," is a look at the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Weaving elements of melody and hard edge riffs, Sinking Ships are creating a sound all their own, somewhere between the familiar echoes of hardcore bands like Bane and In My Eyes, but with their own distinct morose overtones.

Seattle's newest residents and Bellingham's favorite sons, Shook Ones, have allowed their sound to branch out into dynamic and new territory. Their poppiness exudes on "Facetious Folly Feat," charging through these eleven new songs with an ease and aggression that harkens back to the days of the Descendents and Black Flag.

End Of A Year: Sincerely

As part of the Albany music scene well known for its hardcore and metal, and veterans of heavy bands themselves, End Of A Year wanted to take it in a different direction. Inspired by the Revolution Summer period of D.C., End Of A Year decided that it is possible to be loud and honest while being tuneful. The music became a natural outgrowth of that position - melodic and, at times, pleasant but always gritty and married to a punk sensibility.

Shook Ones: Slaughter Of The Insole

Revelation: 134<br />
<br />
Bellingham, WA's Shook Ones bring you this three song single that sounds like pop-punk as done by kids who'd rather play all their records on 45, regardless of what the labels say. Slaughter Of The Insole, a 7" vinyl single, captures moments where the word "fun" fits perfectly between reckless and powerful. These two new songs along with their rendition of Leatherface's classic "Not A Day Goes By" round out this 7 minute (or so) debut release on Revelation.<br />
<br />
You can trace the Shook Ones' sound back to classic punk bands such as 7 Seconds and the Descendents, and more recent bands like Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. Then again, their style could be said to have just as much similarity to the aforementioned bands as it does with Jawbreaker and Hot Water Music. Their hardcore and punk roots come through in their unique and quirky melodies as well as their aggressive guitar assault. The scratchy vocals complete the mix, adding just as much to the music as any of the other instruments.
