The 6th annual Record Store Day is on the horizon (April 20) and once
again Revelation is releasing some cool vinyl for the big day. Here's
a bit of info on each record:

SLIPKNOT Self Titled 7" (REV013)

Originally released by Revelation in 1989, and only pressed twice,
Slipknot's 7" is coming back to vinyl for the first time since 1999!
CT's Slipknot play a unique brand of thrash metal/crossover not unlike
early C.O.C. 1000 pressed on orange vinyl and only available from
record stores on April 20th. Don't confuse this Slipknot with the
silly mask Slipknot from Iowa.

SENSE FIELD Self Titled LP (REV037)

Hear where it all started for Sense Field. This self-titled 12"
combines the original two EPs Sense Field self-released before signing
with Revelation. Fourteen songs from one of the most incredible bands
out of Los Angeles. Like a lot of our titles from the '90s, this
release has been out of print on vinyl for several years. Now is your
chance to get it on vinyl again! 700 pressed on red vinyl for Record
Store Day.

THE NERVE AGENTS Days Of The White Owl 12" (REV094)

Released in 2000, The Nerve Agents debut full-length is one half NYHC and
one half East Bay Punk with unique stylings all their own. With

Following a sold-out two-night stand in New York City last month, post-hardcore pioneers Texas is the Reason are leaving their hometown for the first time in fifteen years for an exclusive North American engagement in 2013 covering eight cities in the U.S. and Canada.

"When we first agreed to play the New York leg of Revelation 25 back in July, it was pretty clear to us that if we were going to do this again, we were going to finally tie up all of the loose ends that have nagged us for so long," explains guitarist Norman Brannon. "Part of that meant going back into the studio to record the songs we never had a chance to make real, but part of that also meant to go out and say thank you to all of the people who have kept this band alive for so long. These shows are the first part of that thank-you."

Although there is yet to be an official announcement regarding the Baltimore studio sessions that the group has already wrapped up with longtime friend and collaborator J. Robbins, it seems as if 2013 will be a banner year for Texas is the Reason. Since disbanding in 1997, the band has reunited only once for two New York shows in 2006, and yet despite this absence, their presence has barely waned: Newer generations of bands like Spitalfield, Into It. Over It., and Transit have all covered Texas is the Reason songs; vets like Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, and Armor For Sleep, among others, have publicly cited their influence; and posthumous print coverage from magazines like Alternative Press, SPIN, and Paste have all deemed the band's recorded output as essential listening. To wit, Do You Know Who You Are? continues to be one of Revelation Records' best selling albums of all time, and Texas is the Reason will kick off 2013 by headlining the closing night of Revelation's 25th anniversary festival in Chicago.

Tickets for all eight dates go on sale this Friday, November 9, and in a short promo film for the tour, the band makes it clear that this will be a limited and exclusive run.

"There's this thing in the video about a 'last waltz,'" Brannon says, "and as far as North America goes, this really is it. We're gonna go out there and play these shows like they're our last shows ever, because for all these cities, they are. There are some other places we need to visit, and we'll get around to that, but this is the first big step towards our last steps. This time, we're going to finish it right."

Richmond, Virginia's Down To Nothing has surprised many by announcing plans for a new album which they are currently recording with Nick Jett (Terror) in Los Angeles, California. Entitled "Life On The James," the full-length is due out in early 2013 via Revelation Records.

The band will also be playing five shows in December including two in the UK, which are listed below, plus a TBA date for December 22nd, which would presumably be in Richmond.

Southern Florida hardcore band Where Fear And Weapons Meet has reunited.

The group originally formed in the late '90s, subsquently releasing material with Revelation Records, Eulogy Recordings, Triple Crown Records and Think Fast! Records before breaking up in 2004.

Their 2012 lineup features original members John Wylie (Morning Again, Until The End) and Jason Lederman (Against All Authority, Shai Hulud). The lineup is rounded off with Think Fast! co-owner Larry Scott, Chip Walbert (All Hell Breaks Loose, Until The End) and Chad Kishick (Shai Hulud).

Where Fear And Weapons Meet's first show back will be a headlining appearance at Bringin It Back for the Kids Fest 2 on Friday, October 12th in Pompano Beach, FL.

Additionally, we're told that the band will soon begin working on new material.

The Rival Mob Signs With Revelation Records

The Rival Mob was born in a bitter wasteland known as Massachusetts in the year of 2007 AD, where 5 men were brought together by a common goal: to play hardcore punk in a manner most hard, cold, and real. Having had a bit of experience here and there playing in bands such as MIND ERASER, FREE SPIRIT, MENTAL, RIGHTEOUS JAMS, THE WRONG SIDE, XFILESX, THE PROWL, BOTTOM LINE, NEW LOWS, LOVELY LADS and R'N'R , it wasn't long until Boston's infamous practice space and recording spa the Pain Cave was ringing with riffs. Inspired by late 80s hardcore a la Breakdown, Rest In Pieces, Youth Of Today, and Crippled Youth, the boys recorded their first demo (an '87 Breakdown worshipping slab of meat) and started playing shows and making a name for themselves within the wonderful hardcore punk community. Not long afterwards they were approached by Boston hardcore hero and entrepreneur Greg Willmott and a deal was inked for a release on the notorious Lockin' Out label. In late 2008 the "Raw Life" EP dropped like an atom bomb and the word was out: The Mob ruled all. Gigs and
tee shirts began to flow like wine as the Mob continuously attacked the Northeast, Canada, and beyond. Unwavering in their style, the "Hardcore for Hardcore" EP was released in 2010 on Six Feet Under records to smashing success.

Aged like a fine wine and seasoned like a fine meal, The Rival Mob return yet again for their first full-length LP on Revelation Records entitled "Mob Justice." "Mob Justice" will take the raw meat and potatoes Rival Mob formula and pump it full of caveman steroids. Not for either the faint of heart or the faint of pit - so don't say you weren't warned.

While going through the archives getting ready for the 25th anniversary shows we've been uncovering some gems. We'll be re-issuing some long-out-of-print records and putting out some shirts that haven't been made in years. To start things off, Chain Of Strength have asked that we print up some "What Holds Us Apart" shirts using updated original artwork and also make some hand-screened posters. Record Store Day is rapidly approaching (April 21) and once again Revelation is releasing some cool vinyl for the big event. Here's a bit of info on each record:

IGNITE Call On My Brothers LP (REV091)

Originally released by Conversion Records in 1995 on CD/LP, Call On My Brothers became a modern day hardcore classic. The record went out of print when Conversion closed up shop a couple of years later. The album was out of print for two years and it was re-released by Revelation on CD in 2000. Now, Call On My Brothers is coming back to vinyl for the first time since 1995! 538 pressed on purple vinyl and only available from record stores on April 21st.

FARSIDE Rigged LP (REV033)

Their incredible second LP. So Cal's finest in melodic punk. Great songs, incredible harmony, essential packaging. Possibly the greatest record ever and it's now available on vinyl again after being out of print for several years. 510 pressed on root beer colored vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day.

SENSE FIELD Killed For Less LP (REV032)

The first full-length album from one of the most incredible bands out of Los Angeles. Fourteen songs that take music to new levels and incredible artwork by Gavin Oglesby. Like a lot of our titles from the '90s, this release has been out of print on vinyl for several years. Now is your chance to get it on vinyl again! 556 pressed on yellow vinyl for Record Store Day.

INTO ANOTHER Self Titled LP (REV024)

Their first release. Metallic prog-core that set the wheels in motion for a band that even now � fifteen years later � is still ahead of their time. Like Sense Field and Farside, this album has been out of print for years. Now you can own it on green vinyl. 553 pressed for Record Store Day.

Frontman Vinnie Cuarana recently tweeted that The Movielife will be playing their last show ever on August 26 in New York City. This show goes on limited presale today (Weds July 6 @ noon EST) and goes on general on-sale this Saturday (July 9 @ noon EST).

The band, highly influential in some circles, reunited in May at Bamboozle in East Rutherford, NJ. Earlier that month, Mightier Than Sword reissued the group's 2000 full-length This Time Next Year on vinyl. Members of The Movielife went on to form bands such as I Am The Avalanche and Nightmare of You.

Your Favorite Trainwreck (ex-Farside/Gameface) To Play East Coast Shows

California's Your Favorite Trainwreck, which features Farside frontman Popeye and Gameface frontman Jeff Caudill, has announced they will be playing four east coast shows from February 17 to February 20, one of which will include the reunion of legendary '90s hardcore band Shades Apart and beloved New Brunswick, NJ hardcore band The Fire Still Burns. All of the shows will include New Brunswick, NJ's Communication Redlight, who released a split 7" with YFT last year on Devildance Records.

Australian Flood Relief Effort

In a bid to assist those effected by the recent flooding in Queensland, Australia, Resist Records set up an eBay auction selling off rare, out of print and test press' of various vinyl released over the years with all proceeds raised going to the Premier�s Disaster Relief Appeal. Not long after launching, bands, artists and labels from around the world offered their support, donating various items towards the cause.

A new list of items have been added to the auction including a custom made guitar signed by Against Me!, silk screened posters by The Gaslight Anthem and Acacia Strain, rare vinyl from Hot Water Music, Chuck Ragan, Epitaph, Revelation, Jade Tree, Suburban Home, Bridge 9, No Idea, React and Trial & Error Records with many new items being added daily.

Past Present is a collection of current bands covering classic tracks from the Revelation Records catalog including songs by GORILLA BISCUITS, WARZONE, YOUTH OF TODAY, CHAIN OF STRENGTH and more. These songs were recorded specially for this release; 22 of the 23 tracks have never been available before and all are currently not available elsewhere. Twenty-three songs covering more than 20 years of hardcore played by a diverse group of bands including SICK OF IT ALL, BOLD, WALTER SCHREIFELS, TERROR, DEATH BY STEREO, SET YOUR GOALS, DOWN TO NOTHING and more, all together on one record.

Collaborator/contributor Jon Sinko of BACKLASH explains the inspiration behind Past Present:

"A few years ago I wanted to start a youth crew/straight edge cover band in Portland where I live now. I put an ad in our local music mag looking for kids with influences from Bold, YOT, etc. and got a response back from some dude saying something like hardcore is dead or that era of hardcore is dead. That email bummed me out and really got me thinking. It wasn't long after that I had dinner with Jordan and pitched him on the idea for the record. At the time, Rev was pretty silent and this was a way to get well respected and active bands to pay tribute to the history that the bands and the label had created over the previous 20 years. The idea to connect back to a good cause in Human Rights Watch helped complete the circle. The days of benefit comps seemed to be disappearing as fast as the appreciation for what Rev originally stood for.

Over the years of recruiting the bands and getting this ready for release, there were so many people who were stoked to be involved in whatever way they could. From Walter, Armand, and Ray to Ken Penn and eventually Jeff Caudill who did the artwork and tons more who referred bands to us. It really was a testament to what influence the label had on so many people. Even for some of the veteran bands, having a song on a Rev release is a defining point in their music careers. This record isn't about Revelation celebrating their 150th release and 23 years of putting out music. It's a celebration and giving back from everyone who has been influenced by this label and the bands who were and are on it. Cover art by Jeff Caudill features the entire Revelation GI Joe collection gathered through trading early releases in the '80s and '90s.

Proceeds from Past Present will benefit Human Rights Watch's advocacy work defending and protecting human rights around the world.

Sick Of It All Record Store Day 7" Pressing Info.

Everyone's been asking, so here's the pressing info for the Sick Of It All 7" we pressed for record store day: We wanted to press about 500 copies of the record on clear vinyl, and decided to clean out the vault at the same time. We had almost 500 old inserts and old covers of various types and decided to use up all the old print. At the same time we also found the original 45 rpm plates that were used for the first pressing and thought it would be fitting to use those plates for this pressing. The labels were printed using the original artwork from one of the earlier 45 rpm pressings. We had the pressing plant send us extra covers and inserts to make sure we had enough for any overage and got the records done. Here's the breakdown of what covers and inserts were used:

7th press : 555 clear vinyl (Record Store Day 2010)

Print used:

293 old fold-over covers with band name in red and old insert

150 new glued, non-glossy covers and 1997 insert

83 old fold-over covers with band name in black and old insert

29 old glued, high-gloss covers and old insert

In the early seventies, Detroit was the musical hub of America. Everything from the chart topping sounds of Motown records to the vicious proto-punk of The Stooges was being brewed out there and it seemed like there was no end in sight. But by the early eighties, the city was both a physical and cultural wasteland due to major label buyouts of the artists as well as the crippling drug habits of some of the others. Detroit's most known musical export at the time was the vapid sounds of New Wave heartthrobs The Romantics; this wasn't good. It took a gaggle of suburban skateboarders, a grade school teacher and a census bureau clerk to wake this city up from its slumber and start one of the first hardcore punk scenes in America.

"Why Be Something That You're Not" chronicles the first wave of Detroit hardcore from its origins in the late seventies to its demise in the mid-eighties. Through a combination of oral history and extensive imagery, the book proves that even though the Southern California beach towns might have created the look and style of hardcore punk, it was the Detroit scene that cultivated the music's grassroots aesthetic before most cultural hot spots even knew what the music was about.
